Filmpack has some great profiles though, but so do RNI and VSCO. PL5 is much slower to update the previews and the previews are not accurate by design.

Lghtroom is much more efficient and faster, with very reactive previews. It's OK if you accept their "intelligent" default settings (it's pretty much a "less clicks there are the better it is "philosophy) but as soon as you want to make your own decisions, the tools are just not there or they give over-the-top results as soon as you move a slider, like those HDR programs from the years 2000. It's very convoluted, and you get not much control even though it looks like you have a lot. I have PL5 Elite with FilmPack and Viewpoint but I gave up trying to do all my editing in PL5. PL5 is not necessary if you have LR and PS. If you're already a Lightrooms subscriber, get PureRaw2.

Do I need the FilmPack to get proper Fujifilm colours?Īnd what are your thoughts/experiences of PhotoLab 5 in general? As with noise, I don't really buy into the 'worms' conspiracy. That's not going to happen! I have no need or wish to make my 21st century snaps look as if I took them in the '70s! Also, £129. The PhotoLab manual suggests I'd need the FilmPack to do the same. With Lightroom I can select Provia, Astia, Velvia etc. My specific question is about Fujifilm colours. I haven't downloaded the demo but have skimmed the full manual. Its £115 but in for a penny, PhotoLab is £199 and as far as I can see includes PureRAW. I'm pretty sure I'll get a PureRAW licence. Impressed by my trial of DXO PureRAW (see this thread Getting into noise reduction) I took a look at the specs for PhotoLab 5.
